Eau de Croissant: the surprising fragrance from Lidl

• In the universe of perfumes, where luxury and creativity often intertwine in unexpected ways, supermarket chain Lidl is making a bold and humorous move.

The company recently launched Eau de Croissant, a unisex fragrance directly inspired by the warm and irresistible aroma of their famous croissant, selling for just 49 cents in stores across the United States. This innovative product, classified as an oriental vanilla essence, was introduced to the market in 2025 as a limited edition, capturing the attention of lovers of unconventional scents and transforming an everyday item into a memorable olfactory experience.

The creator of this creation is Sarah McCartney, a perfumer renowned for her creative approaches and collaborations with diverse brands. McCartney, who has previously worked on independent projects and with experimental notes, has managed to distill the essence of fresh pastry into a fragrance that evokes notes of butter and freshly baked croissant. The result? A scent that combines the sweetness of vanilla with the freshness of a viennoiserie product, offering the wearer a feeling of comfort and originality, perfect for the holiday season.

What makes Eau de Croissant even more special is its distribution method: the perfume is not available for sale in stores, but exclusively through a contest organized on the official Lidl US Instagram account (@lidlus), held between December 4 and 18. The packaging, an ingenious croissant-shaped bottle, was designed by design studio Plunge, adding an extra layer of playful and visual charm to the product.

This launch is not just a marketing joke, but a testament to Lidl’s strategy to democratize luxury by offering accessible and innovative products that defy convention. In a market saturated with classic scents, Eau de Croissant is a breath of fresh air – or rather, a mouthful of fresh croissant – inviting consumers to explore the playful side of fragrances. It remains to be seen whether this limited edition will inspire future similar creations, but one thing is certain: Lidl has managed to transform a simple breakfast into an olfactory statement.
