Romania's deficit in trade with agri-food products increased by almost 66% in the first quarter of this year, compared to last year, up to 755,34 million euros, according to the data provided upon request AGERPRES by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR). In the first three months of 2020, the deficit recorded in trade with agri-food products was 455,5 million euros.
Fewer agricultural products for export
In the first quarter of this year, Romania exported agri-food products worth 1,74 billion euros, less than in the similar period of 2020, when receipts from exports to intra- and extra-EU countries exceeded 1,97 billion euros , according to analysts. On the other hand, more than 2021 billion euros were spent on imports of agri-food products in the first months of 2,49, while, in the similar period of 2020, the amounts were slightly lower, totaling 2,43, XNUMX billion euros.
In three months, exported corn brought in revenues of 405,38 million euros
According to MADR data, in the top of the exported foods that brought the most revenue in the first quarter of 2021 were: corn, with a total of 405,38 million euros, sunflower seeds (173,45 million euros), wheat and meslin (a mixture of wheat and rye in a ratio of 2-1) (170,28 million euros), leaf cigarettes, cigars and cigarettes (158,25 million euros) and other tobacco and tobacco substitutes (74,88 millions of euros).
Imports of 103 million euros for bakery products
Maize occupies the first position and in the top 5 imported products between January and March 2021, with a value of 157,86 million euros, followed by fresh refrigerated or frozen pork - 123,13 million euros. Also, in the first quarter, almost 103 million euros were spent on bakery products, pastries and biscuits, 94,46 million euros for preparations used in animal feed and 92,07 million euros for unnamed food preparations.
