• Retailers of unpackaged food products must display in a visible place information about the contained substances that can cause allergies or intolerance, announced the National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC). And products sold online must have specified information on substances that can cause allergies.
The ANPC order was published in the Official Gazette no. 592/14.06.2021
The provision of information regarding the presence of substances or products that may cause allergies or intolerance to unpackaged food products, such as loose biscuits, is provided for in an order of the president of the National Consumer Protection Authority (ANPC), published in the Official Gazette no. . 592/14.06.2021, page 15. "On June 14, 2021, ANPC President's Order no. was published in the Official Gazette of Romania. 163 of 03.06.2021 for providing information on the presence of substances or products that may cause allergies or intolerance to unpackaged food products. The order stipulates that, starting from this date, non-prepackaged food products must be accompanied, upon sale, by information regarding the presence of substances or products that can cause allergies or intolerance", it is mentioned in a press release from ANPC.
The information must be entered in a visible place
Thus, according to ANPC, the information must be available and accessible directly at the point of sale/offer of unpackaged food products or, in the case of distance marketing, before their purchase. The information must be entered in a visible, easily accessible, legible, indelible place and must not be obscured by other written or photographic materials.
And products sold online must have specified information on substances that can cause allergies
In the case of non-prepackaged food products sold online, information on substances/products that may cause allergies or intolerance must be specified on the remote sales support, on the price tag or transport packaging, as well as in any informative material, the order also states ANPC.
By non-prepackaged food product is meant, according to ANPC, any bulk or molded food product that is not subject to the pre-packaging operation and which, in order to be sold, is measured and weighed in the presence of the buyer.
