World Bread Day – October 16

• Starting in 2001, the International Union of Bakers (UIB) decided that October 16 would also become World Bread Day, and the event is celebrated annually in almost 30 countries on all continents.

The ways in which the peoples of the world celebrate this day differ from one civilization to another, but they all have a common element at the center: bread.

In 1980, the UN General Assembly decided to mark the World Food Day, considering that food is a fundamental human need and a necessary condition for the survival and prosperity of the human being. Thus, every year, on October 16, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) celebrates World Food Day, which is the day the FAO was founded in 1945, in Quebec, Canada.
