Bread in museums, symbol of harmony

Museum of Bread in St. Petersburg it was founded in 1988 and is the only one of its kind in Russia, the country where bread had a special value in the past, being considered a sign of hospitality. This unique museum showcases the importance of bread throughout history, something many people have forgotten these days. In ancient Russia, bread was not simply a snack, but was considered a symbol of harmony between people and nature, many of the rituals practiced at that time included this product.

The museum in Saint Petersburg focuses on the role of bread, presenting a whole range of bakery products, commonly prepared by bakers and confectioners in the XNUMXth century. With a unique collection of over 14.000 exhibits, the museum presents the life and culture of the ancestors through the brilliant invention of man - bread. Exhibits include a variety of ancient ovens, bakery packaging, and a small bakery in St. Petersburg from the 125th century, reconstructed. There are also several examples of traditional Russian bread, buns and biscuits, including a section dedicated to rations of only XNUMX grams of bread per capita distributed during the siege of Leningrad in World War II.
One of the main objectives of the museum is to show visitors how sacred bread was in the past, compared to the situation today, when the product is considered a simple commodity that is easy to purchase.
Visiting this museum will give another perspective on Russia, one that is truly interesting and unique.
