The methodology for identifying whole grain products

• The methodology for identifying whole grain products was developed by the National Institute of Public Health in the framework of an international project, and product notification will be voluntary.

The National Institute of Public Health submitted for consultation the "Methodology for identifying products that comply with European requirements regarding the content of whole grains, salt, sugar and fat and which are recommended by the INSP to be consumed within a healthy lifestyle ".
The document developed by the INSP points out: "Increasing the consumption of whole grains at the population level has a favorable effect on public health, as scientific evidence shows that an increase in the consumption of whole grains has a role in the prevention of chronic diseases such as type II diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, colon cancer."

Nutritional behavior favorable to health

methodology for identifying whole grain products

This methodology aims to increase the consumption of whole grain products and adopt a nutritional behavior favorable to health.
The identification and display of the list of products with whole grains recommended by the National Institute of Public Health aims to increase the level of information of the population regarding the presence of these products on the Romanian market, while also stimulating confidence regarding the authenticity of the content.
The notification process is voluntary, accessible and free of charge to any producer of products containing whole grains.

The WholEUGrain initiative

The notification of the products will be done by the producers by submitting a file for the product that wants to be certified. The product file will contain a completed notification form provided by the INSP, submitted together with the label of the product to be evaluated. The manufacturer assumes that this composition on the submitted label is fully contained in the labeled product.
After the analysis, carried out by the INSP, the notified products will be included on the list displayed on the website of the National Institute of Public Health (on the page the WholEUGrain initiative). The list will contain the products recommended by the INSP to be consumed as part of a healthy nutritional behavior.
Manufacturers will be able to use these recommendations in campaigns to promote products that have received a favorable opinion from the INSP.

Products that meet the criteria
