• Tetra Pak has published its sustainability report for the financial year 2023, looking at the progress the company has made in relation to its sustainability agenda, in areas such as food systems, circularity, climate, nature and social sustainability.
Tetra Pak has announced a significant 20% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its value chain from 2019 to date, according to the company's 25th sustainability report. This is an important step towards achieving the goal of net zero GHG emissions in its own operations by 2030 and in the value chain by 2050.
The company's sustainability report also includes data on Tetra Pak's action plan to transform food systems, as announced at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28).

The sustainability report for the financial year 2023 also highlights other notable achievements of the company:
- The world premiere of an aseptic packaging for drinks, in which the aluminum protective layer was replaced by a paper-based one, thus increasing the percentage of renewable materials in the packaging to 90%. This new packaging reduces the company's carbon footprint by 33%, reflecting the €100 million investment in research and development.
- Expanding school feeding programs: 64 million children in 49 countries have benefited from milk and other nutritious beverages through these programs.
- Increasing recycling activity: The amount of cardboard packaging recycled increased by 7% compared to 2022, and the recycling of polyAl (polyethylene and aluminum layers that are used as a barrier against oxygen and moisture to protect food contents in aseptic cardboard packaging) increased by 14%.
International recognition
Tetra Pak is recognized by the international non-profit environmental organization, CDP Forests, for Leadership in Transparency and Corporate Performance regarding climate change and forests, being included in the prestigious "A List" of CDP Forests for the eighth consecutive year and achieving a rating "A-" for water security, right from the first reporting year.

Adolfo Orive, President and CEO of Tetra Pak, states: “Collaboration in the food industry is increasingly important to be able to sustainably feed the ever-growing global population. Our global presence and end-to-end solutions give us opportunities every day to collaborate with stakeholders along our value chain, from farmers and food producers to suppliers, policy makers, consumers and other partners. We understand the responsibility we have and remain committed to playing a major role in transforming food systems to make them safer, more resilient and sustainable. "
At the local level, among the recent actions in the area of sustainability, Tetra Pak held the educational competition "Students are changing the game: CartON!" in partnership with Edupedu, teaching students about the benefits of recycling cardboard packaging. The competition involved 79 schools from 32 counties and Bucharest, awarding 19 outstanding projects.
