• Bread is expected to become more expensive again this year due to higher production costs.
Bread will suffer a new price increase according to the estimates of the Minister of Agriculture, Petre Daea. This increase in price is a consequence of higher production costs, including those of obtaining the wheat harvest. Minister of Agriculture states that in order to be able to cover their expenses and to be able to continue cultivating the farmland, farmers will sell their wheat at higher prices.

During a press conference held in Bistrița-Năsăud county, Petre Daea declared: "Wheat is more expensive now because it was produced more expensively. I am not a follower of those who say that the market sets the price. No, the market stabilizes the price, but the price is made of cost elements, and farmers work with more expensive diesel, with more expensive fertilizers, with more expensive insecticides, with more expensive labor. (...) Farmers are extremely weighted in demanding high prices. They don't ask for high prices because they want to, they only ask for the price by which they can recover the expenses they have made, so that they can continue to work the respective land. Because, if the producer stops, we certainly don't have bread in Romania. And let's not stop the producer, let's have bread in Romania - it's true, it's more expensive, due to the technological process and the respective expense elements, which are included in the production cost at the end of the product as such".
At the same time, the Minister of Agriculture thanked the farmers for their efforts this year, stating that the wheat production obtained is sufficient to cover domestic needs, as well as to be able to export a part.
