The Territorial Labor Inspectorate (ITM) Suceava announces that it will carry out verification checks on employers who use chemical products in their work. The purpose of these actions is to examine how to comply with the minimum safety and health requirements at work, given that chemical substances cause the most common occupational diseases. According to ITM's action plan, the checks will take place between July and September 2020.
In grain silos and bakery factories there is a risk of fires, self-ignition or strong explosions. These represent major dangers, and to be avoided ITM Suceava will check all enterprises that carry out reception, conditioning, storage and valorization activities of agricultural or bakery products.
"The awareness of employers and employees of the dangers existing in the production process is very important, each of the participants having to take measures in accordance with the role played in the production process", explained Romeo Butnariu, head of ITM Suceava.
The dangers to which employees and employers are exposed
In the technological processes that take place in the activities in silos, bread factories and factories for the production of combined fodder, mineral dust and vegetable dust are released, both of which can be harmful. While mineral dust has harmful effects on health, vegetable dust released in the production process has an important contribution in starting fires or explosions. The mixture of plant dust with air and fire source can cause real tragedies. In general, the finer the dust particles, the greater the danger.
Also, according to the press release from ITM Suceava, explosions can also be triggered as a result of the storage of sunflower seeds and soybean meal in the cells of the silos in which conditions for the release of pyrophoric gases are created.
Annually, more than 28 deaths caused by occupational cancer are recorded in the EU 100.000, which represents 53% of deaths caused by workplace conditions. In this context, the European Commission considers the prevention of occupational diseases a challenge for the EU Strategic Framework on health and safety at work 2014-2020.
