• Continued support from the euro's decline against the dollar and the evolution of prices in Russia, wheat prices on Euronext recorded a new increase yesterday.
The contract expiring in March 2025 is thus approaching the highs reached since the beginning of January, once again exceeding the threshold of €235/t. The recent increase in prices, both in Europe and in the Black Sea region, does not seem to have reduced international demand. In fact, Algeria launched an auction yesterday for the purchase of bread wheat, with delivery scheduled for April. Wheat quotations are also increasing for the new harvest. The contract expiring in September 2025 has returned to the highest level in the last four months, trading above €236/t.
Corn prices are also trending higher, supported by general market trends. However, feed industry players remain cautious about the price gap between corn and other available grains.
In the oilseeds segment, palm oil prices in Malaezia recorded an advance yesterday, following the announced decrease in production and inventories for January. In Canada, canola seeds traded in Winnipeg also reached their highest level since mid-November. These two elements, together with the recovery in oil prices, provided additional support for European rapeseed, which managed to maintain its price level from the previous session, evolving above the technical support area.
Euronext quotes showed a decline for both the old and new harvest. This trend occurred in the context of a depreciation of the euro/dollar exchange rate, which fell below 1,0350, and despite the continued high prices of canola in Canada and palm oil in Malaysia.
