• Romania, once considered the "Granary of Europe" has recently come to import more food than it exports.
On the occasion of the event that marked 30 years of activity of the American Chamber of Commerce in Romania (AmCham), the Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca declared that it was impossible for him to understand how, from the "Granary of Europe", Romania turned into a large food importer.
The Prime Minister notes that, at the national level, interest in the development of the food industry has been lost and encourages businessmen from the United States to invest in Romanian agriculture.

In addition to investments from Romania, Prime Minister Ciucă also points out that there is investment potential for the Republic of Moldova, which would also mean an opportunity to help this country develop.
Not to be neglected, in addition to investment aid, are also government programs designed to support Romanian farmers and stimulate the development of the food industry, programs that the prime minister states are "very well targeted for supporting Romanian farmers and for the development of the food industry".
"It is very difficult for us to understand how this country which is considered the granary of Europe, which has historically been considered the breadbasket of Europe, has a trade balance deficit on food. We import all kinds of food." declared Nicolae Ciucă.
He also adds: "Now the interest in the development of the food industry has been lost, and I think that here the investors from AmCham they have to come and invest in the food industry."
