• Following the wave of dissatisfaction related to the small amount that would have returned to Romania to compensate farmers affected by grain imports from Ukraine, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced during the meeting European Council that the institution will reanalyze the value of the allocated amounts.
According to the initial project, our country would have received, from the crisis budget, an aid of only 10,05 million euros. President Klaus Iohannis said regarding the farmers' revolt, that Romania made huge sacrifices to facilitate grain exports from Ukraine to world markets and that he does not understand the approach of the European Commission.

President Iohannis declares: "Ministry of Agriculture delivers data to the European Commission. The European Commission uses a calculation formula, without negotiating with anyone, and grants certain aids. It is possible that the data used by the ministry was not thought through deeply, but I have not seen it and cannot comment. It is very strange that in the European Commission, on these matters, nothing is negotiated and formulas are used.
These things cannot be solved, in my opinion, accounting. These are complicated matters. The European Commission had to take into account the fact that we made huge sacrifices to facilitate grain exports from Ukraine to world markets. They didn't. I don't know why they didn't. It is unfortunate that such ultra-bureaucratic approaches call into question the good faith of the Commission."

The European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Janusz Wojciechowski, together with the technical team, agreed to resume the calculation of the amounts due to the states affected by the war in Ukraine. Changes to how the money will reach farmers are also under discussion.
