The 5% quota applied to ecological products entered into force on June 1, after the emergency ordinance adopted by the Government had been published in the Official Gazette on May 23.
The measure applies to "the delivery of high-quality food, namely mountain, organic, traditional products, authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development". The authorities took this decision because such a facility will make high-quality food cheaper, given that the price of these products is usually higher than that of similar products. The government has taken into account the worrying statistics on the health status of the population and the directions of action in the field of health established at the world level, which encourage healthier food choices. The associations of producers of organic, traditional and Romanian food products have signed an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture to reduce the VAT rate from 9% to 5%, this being a measure in favor of production, consumption and access to a larger category of consumers to quality Romanian agri-food products.
