Farmers affected by drought will receive compensation

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Adrian Oros, presented the situation during the July 2 press conference REMEDIES which the farmers should receive on account of the damages suffered due to the drought.

More than 1 million hectares were affected, of which more than 70% of the area is cultivated with wheat. "The subject most awaited by farmers these days is related to the establishment of that state aid scheme granted to agricultural producers who set up crops in autumn and who suffered losses due to the evolution of this extreme and strong pedological drought. The synthesis of the reports carried out by those who were active in the commissions for emergency situations has been completed and today we can have an official figure. A number of 34.647 farmers were affected, and the affected area is 1.168.000 hectares with crops established in the fall of 2019," said Minister Adrian Oros.

The proposed amounts will be subject to approval in the Government, during the budget rectification. Farmers can submit applications to APIA starting August 14, with payments due in early September. "Application requests to APIA centers are submitted starting August 14, so we will make payments through APIA. They have a very good database so that we can be objective and not make mistakes", said the Minister of Agriculture.

During the press conference it was also announced the amounts proposed for compensation. Thus, the amount of payments per hectare is:
wheat – 925 lei
rye - 925 lei
triticale - 805 lei
barley - 912 lei
orzoaica – 951
oats – 772 lei
rapeseed – 1002 lei
