Top companies in the bakery industry in Romania

• In the bakery industry in Romania, there are several companies that dominate the market due to their financial performance and significant presence in the sector.

According to an analysis by Economica.net, among the strongest businesses in the country's bakery industry are Vel Pitar, Oltina Impex Prod and Boromir Ind. These companies are either supported by foreign capital or by Romanian entrepreneurs, and continue to play a crucial role in this economic sector.

Vel Pitar – The leader backed by an international giant

Vel Pitar is owned by the Mexican group Bimbo, one of the largest bakery manufacturers globally. The presence of Vel Pitar in the top of the strongest producers in Romania underlines its important role in the market. This company continues to be an essential pillar in the bakery sector, benefiting from the support and expertise of a renowned international player.

In 2023, Bimbo also acquired the company Three Bakers through BB Global Investing Holding and BBI QSR Holding, a company that declared for 2023 a turnover of 176,5 million lei, with an increase of 18% compared to 2022 and a net profit of 40,9 million lei, double the previous year.

At the level of 2023, Vel Pitar, according to data from the Ministry of Finance, recorded a net turnover of 841,4 million lei, with a percentage of 10,3% higher than in 2022 and a net profit of 124 million lei, 37% more than in 2022. Oltina Impex Prod – Romanian capital in a difficult market

In 2023, Oltina Impex Prod recorded a net turnover of approx 723 million lei, but this was with 40% lower than the one reported in 2022. This significant decrease in revenues led the company to declare losses of 8 million lei, a fact that also determined the decrease in the number of employees by 46 people.

Boromir Ind – Tradition and challenges

Boromir Ind, another leading company in the bakery industry, is controlled by the family Boromiz. In 2023, Boromir Ind reported a net turnover of 494 million lei, decreasing with about 4% compared to 2022. While Vel Pitar continues to benefit from the support of an international giant, Oltina Impex Prod and Boromir Ind face significant challenges in maintaining profitability in a difficult economic environment.
