The USDA forecasts for Romania an optimal grain harvest this commercial year

• Romania's grain production in the 2023/24 marketing year will be better than the previous year, thanks to improved areas and yields, according to the latest forecasts of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).

In Romania and Bulgaria, below-average late spring temperatures slowed the final stages of winter crop development and delayed spring sowing, while many areas were hit by storms or heavy rain, events that had a negative impact on crops, according to the latest forecast of the US Department of Agriculture.

In addition, farmers used less fertilizer and the incidence of pests was high, which will affect the quality of production, especially in the western areas of these two countries.

Romania will remain, according to forecasts, the fourth largest cereal producer in the EU, after France, Germany, Poland, with a total production estimated at approximately 22-23 million tons.

In the case of wheat, USDA CONSIDERS average yields for the main producing countries in the EU, namely France, Germany, Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary, but significantly higher than those obtained in the 2022/23 marketing year.

Weather conditions in Europe are affecting the progress of the harvest which is influencing grain futures quotes on the trading markets.

It is also clear that new tensions between Russia and Ukraine are further fueling fears about export activity in the Black Sea region. Euronext prices rose yesterday, returning to levels equivalent to those recorded last week.
