• The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Petre Daea, declared on Wednesday, 26.04.2023, that the EC calculation formula has changed for the better.
Romania will not receive the smallest amount of the 100 million euros announced by the European Commission, to support countries heavily affected by grain imports from Ukraine.
"It will not happen, because the calculation formula has changed, (...) and it has changed for the better, because I said it very clearly then, and it is the first time that a Minister of Agriculture of Romania makes this statement in front of the Commission , making it very clear that that formula was distorting truth and reality.
You also saw the intervention of Mr. President (...) on the occasion of the work at the European Council, that we cannot evaluate the complex, complicated and extremely difficult situation we are in through accounting calculations, and the country's effort must be honored by the amounts that Romania deserves and the farmers deserve.
We are in this device, we will continue to be in this device to support Romanian farmers and do what is necessary for the country, but with rules, with legal norms that we must not violate, because on the legal level it is interpretive and we can be consequences more painful than these", said Peter Daea in a press conference.

The new amount is not yet known
Minister Daea stated that he cannot say what amount Romania could receive from the 100 million euros announced by The European Commission to support countries affected by grain exports from Ukraine, until the decision comes.
"I do not give any answer on this amount. I told you very clearly from the very beginning, I'm waiting, and now I'm convinced that things are fine at the European Commission and from this point of view I'm partly reassured, because I'm waiting for the decision as soon as possible, in such a way that we are near the farmers.
Here it is outside, it's time to sow, it's time to irrigate, it's time to work in the fields. They understood these things very well, and in this corridor of the national interest and the interests of the Romanian farmers, Petre Daea was always present both in the institutional dialogue and in the formal one, under the conditions in which he signed documents and made proposals to be taken into account by the institutions of the European Union", he added.

The European Commission recently allocated 56,3 million euros to compensate the economic losses caused by the increase in grain and oilseed imports from Ukraine, with Romania receiving the smallest amount, namely 10,05 million euros. Later, the Commission announced that it will allocate funds of 100 million euros for the most affected countries, and will announce how this money will be divided.
