• The states affected by the influx of Ukrainian grain, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia decided to temporarily ban grain imports from Ukraine. The European Commission defines these measures as unacceptable.
According to Reuters, which quotes a spokesperson for the European Commission, unilateral trade actions by EU states are "unacceptable". This statement was made following the decision of Poland and Hungary to ban imports of Ukrainian grain and other food products.
Imports of Ukrainian grain and other food products, for which the EU opened its market without being required to comply with European quality standards, caused losses to the agricultural sector of Central and Eastern European countries due to oversupply and falling prices.
"We are aware of the announcements of Poland and Hungary regarding the prohibition of imports of grain and other agricultural products. In this context, it is important to emphasize that trade policy is an exclusive competence of the EU and therefore unilateral actions are unacceptable."

Hungary did not give details on when the ban on grain and other food imports would take effect, but said it would expire at the end of June. The government in Budapest is hoping for changes in regulations at the EU level, including a rethinking of the elimination of import duties on Ukrainian products.
Ukraine expresses regret over Poland's decision, stating that "resolving various problems through drastic unilateral actions will not accelerate a positive resolution of the situation".
The Czech Republic announces that it has no plans yet to ban imports of grain or other agricultural products from Ukraine. The Czech Ministry of Agriculture says that the market impact of Ukrainian grain imports in neighboring countries requires a solution at the level of the European Union and not individual bans on imports, such as those taken in Poland, Hungary and Slovakia.
