• Romania remains the EU's second grain exporter in the 2021-2022 commercial year, after France, which is still the leader in the profile market.
Romania remains at the top of grain exports for the 2021-2022 agricultural commercial year, which ends in two weeks. Compared to the previous commercial year, Romania exported double the amounts of wheat and corn, thus claiming second place, after France, which exported approximately half a million tons more of grain. Romania did not export sorghum and durum wheat, but it is the largest exporter of corn, as in the previous year, and in second place for wheat and barley.
The latest data provided by The European Commission shows that Romania, in the 51 out of 53 weeks of the 2021-2022 agricultural commercial year, exported more than 12,1 million tons of grain, representing 27,4% of the total exports of the European Union. For some cereals, such as baking wheat, Romanian exports have almost doubled.
The export of Romanian cereals
Romania is once again in first place in corn exports, delivering more than 4,1 million tons this year, compared to 2,1 million tons of corn exported in the agricultural commercial year 2020-2021.
Wheat exported this commercial year 2021-2022 totaled 6,3 million bread wheat, compared to 3,1 million tons the previous year. France reported deliveries of 8,1 million tonnes. At EU level, 26,6 million tons of wheat were exported to countries such as Algeria, Egypt and China.
Regarding the export of barley, Romania reported a figure of 1,6 million tons, out of the total of 6,8 million tons exported at the EU level, which ensures its second place in the ranking, after France with a barley export of 3,2 million tons. Compared to the previous year, the export of Romanian barley, including malt, increased by 49,8% for the agricultural commercial year 2021-2022.
The total amount of grains for grains produced by Romania in the period 2021-2022 amounted to 27,7 million tons, compared to 18,1 million tons in 2020-2021 and 30,4 million tons in the agricultural commercial year 2019- 2020.
