• The data published on Tuesday 21.03.2023 by the European Commission show that Romania is the second largest exporter of wheat in the EU for season 2022-2023, after France.
Agency Reuters, quoted by Agerpres informs that the soft wheat exports of the European Union in the 2022-2023 season, which started on July 1, 2022, reached 19 million tons on March 22,13 of the current year, an increase of 8% compared to the 20,52 million tons of wheat exported in the same period of the 2021-2022 season.
France remains the largest exporter of wheat in the EU this season, with 8,69 million tons exported until March 19 this year, followed by Romania with 2,77 million tons. The next places are, in order, Germany with 2,60 million tons of exported wheat, Lithuania with 1,97 million tons, and Poland with 1,86 million tons of exported wheat.
France in first place

According to the data, the EU exported in the current season an amount of 4,33 million tons of barley, almost 30% less than the 6,18 million tons of barley exported in the same period of the 2021-2022 season, while imports of EU corn increased significantly, by 66%, up to 19,73 million tons. Out of the 19,73 million tons of corn imported so far by the EU bloc, a quantity of 1,14 million tons was imported by Romania.
Spain remains the biggest EU corn importer this season with 6,76 million tonnes so far, followed by the Netherlands with 2,26 million tonnes, Portugal with 1,54 million tonnes, Italy with 1,52 million tons, Hungary with 1,46 million tons, Poland with 1,2 million tons, and Romania with 1,14 million tons.
The main sources for EU corn imports in the 2022-2023 season according to European Commission data are Ukraine, Brazil, Canada, Serbia and Russia. In the case of Ukraine, there is a significant increase, from 6,490 million tons of corn imported into the EU in the 2021-2022 season to 10,156 million tons of corn imported by the EU bloc so far in the 2022-2023 season.
