Romania managed to strike, in 2020, in an important field. With 854.143 tonnes of maize, i.e. approximately 67% of the EU's total exports, Romania is currently the largest exporter of maize among the member countries.
The European Union's maize exports in the 2020/2021 season, which began on July 1, 2020, reached 1,274 million tons by January 31, 2021, according to data published on the first day of February by the European Commission.
On the other hand, in the period July 1, 2020-January 31, 2021, EU soft wheat exports amounted to 14,99 million tons, down from 18,02 million tons in the same period last season.
The largest exporters of soft wheat, from the beginning of the current season until now, were: France (4,013 million tons), Lithuania (2,3 million tons), Latvia (1,95 million tons), Germany (1,859 million tons), Poland (1,72 million tons) and Romania (1,526 million tons).
European Commission data also show that EU barley exports, between July 1, 2020 and January 31, 2021, were 3,92 million tons, down from 4,55 million tons in the same period of the previous season.
According to the operational data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, sent at the request of Agerpres, Romania's total grain production has decreased this year to almost half compared to 2019, due to the extreme pedological drought that affected some agricultural areas in the country, totaling totaling just over 17 million tons.
Romania's wheat production recorded a decrease of almost 41% compared to 2019, reaching 6,091 million tons, from an area of 2,088 million hectares and an average of 2.917 kg/ha, compared to 4.749 kg/ha last year.
