Alliance for Agriculture and Cooperation requests the Orban Cabinet to approve the budget rectification in the next Government meeting, so that the farmers affected by the drought can collect the money by August 20.
In a press conference at the beginning of July, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development presented compensation situation, specifying the fact that the proposed amounts will be subject to approval by the Government during the budget rectification. It was also communicated then the amount of payments per hectare, as follows: wheat - 925 lei, rye - 925 lei, triticale - 805 lei, barley - 912 lei, barley - 951, oats - 772 lei, rapeseed - 1002 lei.
On August 4, the Minister of Agriculture, Adrian Oros, announced that the competent ministry will allocate 1,2 billion lei. "Although there has been a lot of rainfall lately, in certain areas of the country, and especially in Dobrogea, in the south of Moldova, there are still areas heavily affected by drought. That is why, as promised, we will make these reparations. During the budget rectification, we got the amounts we need. We are talking about 1,2 billion lei. 34.647 farmers are affected, and you already know the amount of compensatory aid per hectare - 925 lei for wheat and rye and 1002 lei for rapeseed. So, about 200 euros. We modified this order, we extended it, because it seems that in some areas the drought will also cause damage to crops that were sown in the spring, and then we extended this order. We completed agricultural crops, we also caught orchards and vineyards", said Adrian Oros.
Unfortunately, Romania is going through a severe drought, which is why collecting compensation in the shortest possible period is essential. Agricultural producers were left without the necessary funds to pay off the loans, given that most of them pay their inputs used in obtaining agri-food products by capitalizing on the harvested production. "The due dates for most farmers were on July 30 and through extraordinary efforts they were extended until August 15. We reiterate the seriousness and amplitude of the situation in which producers in the agro-food sector find themselves and the urgency of obtaining these compensations that cover only a small part of the expenses incurred with the establishment and maintenance of the crops of the agricultural year that is about to end or the preparation of the land for the year next agricultural season, until August 20, 2020, but without which the activity will not be able to continue", it is stated in the press release of the Alliance for Agriculture and Cooperation.
The document drafted by the organization that brings together the employers of agricultural producers was addressed, in the form of open letter, Prime Minister Ludovic Orban, Minister of Finance, Florin Cîțu, and Minister of Agriculture, Adrian Oros.
