The milling and baking industry continues to face a personnel crisis: Boromir Group is looking for 1.800 employees

• The Romanian food industry is facing an acute labor shortage, and one of the most important local players is sounding a clear alarm.

The Boromir Group, a national leader with local capital in milling and baking, currently has 1.800 vacancies nationwide. Of these, approximately 400 are available only in the Sibiu area, through the Moara Cibin company, an integral part of the group.

Founded in 1994 in Râmnicu Vâlcea by entrepreneurs Constantin Boromiz, Gheorghe Boromiz and Mircea Ureche, Boromir has grown from a bakery and a mill to a true giant in the sector. Today, it operates five modern mills, 22 production lines and offers over 300 products under the established brands Boromir (flours, cornmeal, biscuits, breadsticks, gingerbread), Feleacul (halva, rahat, pufarine) and Rommac (breakfast cereals), with the company being present in over 20 countries.

The statements were made on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, during the event EDU-LAB-FARM, organized by the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Food Industry and Environmental Protection of the "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu. Over 800 high school students from 10 educational institutions participate, during the five days (March 30 - April 3), in 145 practical thematic workshops held at the Didactic and Research Farm in Rusciori.

Mircea Ureche, a representative of the company, sent a direct and motivational message to the young people present:

"I'll give you some general advice. First of all, you have to have a lot of confidence in yourself. Confidence is fundamental. (…) Start from the start with the confidence you have to have in yourself. We, in Sibiu, need, attention, we need, not that we provide jobs, not that we hire, we need approximately 400 people. In the whole country we need 1.800 people. Don't be afraid that there is absolutely no place under the sun for any of you. (…) Try to capitalize on the opportunities."

His message was supported by Daniela Campean, the president of the Sibiu County Council, and Ciprian Stefan (Ciprian Anghel Ștefan), the general director of the ASTRA National Museum Complex in Sibiu. The two encouraged young people to choose careers in agriculture and the food industry, fields with stable development prospects.

This staffing crisis is not isolated. In recent years, the agri-food industry has been facing a chronic shortage of skilled labor, caused by youth migration, an aging workforce, and competition from other sectors. Companies like Boromir, which constantly invests in modern technology and high-quality products, need motivated people now more than ever – from mill and production line operators to quality control, recipe development, and management specialists.

The EDU-LAB-FARM event represents a concrete step towards solving this challenge: bringing young people closer to practical and future-oriented careers in the field. "white art"For those interested in a stable profession, with real impact in the Romanian food chain, the opportunities offered by Boromir Group they are real and immediate.
