The International Union of Bakers, Confectioners and Confectioners (UIBC) has named the 2018 winners.
Thus, Jochen Baier (left photo), from Germany, was voted "Baker of the year 2018", and Salvador Pla Petit (right photo), from Spain, was voted "Confectioner of the year 2018". The winners were selected after judging seven finalists from Germany, Iceland, Spain, Sweden and Taiwan. The candidates' professional achievements, successes in competitions, appearances in publications, effort and involvement in marketing and innovation activities in the trade of bakery, pastry and confectionery products were evaluated. "It was a very close result, as all candidates had excellent references and results. Choosing the best of the best professionals is no easy task and we congratulate all the candidates for the wonderful work they do in and for the bakery and confectionery sector", said UIBC President Antonio ARIAS. The two laureates will receive their awards during the UIBC 2018 Congress, at the IBA trade fair in Munich. On this occasion, they will create a special bread recipe and an artistic dessert for the gala dinner, when the award ceremony will also take place.
In 2019, the two winners will have the mission of promoting the professions of baker and pastry chef, as well as UIBC's activity at public events around the globe.
