The Ministry of Finance launches the iBon application for checking tax receipts

• The Ministry of Finance and the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) have officially launched the iBon mobile application, a free tool intended for citizens who want to quickly and easily verify the correctness of issued tax receipts.

Available starting from May 18th 2026 Available on Google Play and the App Store, the app allows users to scan tax receipts by taking a photo, with the data being automatically retrieved and subsequently verified in the ANAF database. Version 1.0 is compatible with iOS and Android devices.

Main functionalities in the first version

The application offers several ways of use adapted to real situations encountered by consumers:

  • Automatic scanning of tax receipts containing an entered ID;
  • Direct upload of receipt photos from the app;
  • Manual data entry, useful for hard-to-read receipts;
  • Sending notifications to ANAF, with the possibility of selecting one of the following situations: "I couldn't pay with my card", "We could not identify on the receipt the minimum elements necessary for manual query" or "I didn't receive a tax receipt".

Ministry representatives emphasize that iBon does not aim to encourage unjustified notifications, but rather provides an accessible information and verification tool, designed to promote voluntary compliance and correct fiscal behavior. Notifications with potential tax risk will be analyzed as a priority to prevent and combat evasion.

"By launching the "iBon" application, the Ministry of Finance and ANAF continue the process of modernizing the electronic services made available to taxpayers and citizens. The development of the application is part of the efforts to digitize tax services and increase tax transparency and aims to encourage voluntary compliance, prevent tax evasion and improve the level of trust between the tax administration, taxpayers and consumers", officials said.

Instructions and feedback

On the site www.anaf.ro, in the section dedicated to digitization projects, users will find detailed instructions for using the application. In this initial stage, those who encounter errors or have suggestions for improvement are invited to send feedback through the contact form – IT section, available on the same site.

The launch of the second phase of development is planned for the second semester of 2026, which will include a bonus system for scanned/verified receipts and for notifications submitted through the application.

The iBon application represents an important step in the authorities' efforts to digitalize interaction with citizens and facilitate verification of tax compliance at the level of retail transactions.
