• Romania will not face a food crisis, says President Klaus Iohannis, after his speech at the UN General Assembly.
On Tuesday, September 20, 2022, the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, participated in the 77th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) in New York.
In the SPEECH held at the rostrum of the UN General Assembly, President Iohannis emphasized our country's involvement in supporting the Ukrainian people and assured that this support will continue. "Romania has opened its borders and its heart for the Ukrainian people," declared Klaus Iohannis, adding that since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, more than 2,3 million Ukrainians have crossed the borders into Romania.
After the speech, the Romanian president held a press conference during which he stated that our country will not face a food crisis, but the difficult global situation will lead to an increase in the price of certain foods.
"I don't think that we will have a food crisis in Romania, nor in Europe. However, we will have an increase in the prices of some foods. We must be very aware that this food crisis will hit the poorer states first. The fact that we are involved in preventing a global crisis is a sign of solidarity", said President Iohannis.
At the same time, President Klaus Iohannis also removed speculations regarding the unavailability of certain foods, or the possibility of their rationalization:
"For Romanians, there should be no question marks, we will not have a food crisis in Romania, we will not rationalize food, but the Government will have to work very hard to keep prices at a level that Romanians can afford" , assures the president.
