Estimated cereal production for Romania in 2024

• According to the European Commission's estimates, Romanian wheat production could fall below 9,5 million tons, while a record of the last four years is expected for corn.

Romanian farmers would produce only 9,4 million tons of soft wheat this year, 19,100 tons less than in 2023, the data show European Commission and ale National Institute of Statistics.

This decline is mainly attributed to a 3,7% reduction in cultivated area to 2,1 million hectares, the lowest wheat area since 2018. However, the average yield is estimated at 4,46 tons per hectare, an increase of 1,4% compared to the average of the last five years.

In contrast, the area cultivated with corn increased significantly, reaching 2,5 million hectares, the highest in the last three years. The average yield per hectare for maize is estimated at 4,91 tonnes, 2,2% higher than the average of the last five years and 36,7% more than in 2023, which would lead to a total production of 12,3 .XNUMX million tons.

Barley production is also expected to reach a record level, with Romanian farmers estimated to harvest around 2,1 million tons, from the 508.000 hectares cultivated.

European Commission analysts estimate that Romanian farmers will generate a total of around 24,5 million tons of grain in 2024, on an area of 5,3 million hectares, representing a 3% increase compared to the previous year.
