• In ten years, bread imports from Poland have increased eight times, from almost 300.000 euros in 2010, to 2,3 million euros today. Viorel Marin, president of ANAMOB, believes that a large amount of this bread only transits Romania.
In ten years, bread imports from Poland to Romania have increased eight times. From almost 300.000 euros in 2010, to 2,3 million euros today. The data are presented by the National Institute of Statistics. Ziarul Financiar made an analysis based on the information and compared Romania and Poland. That's because there are two countries that produce equal amounts of wheat. 9-10 million tons of wheat per year. The Poles, on the other hand, have stopped importing bread from Romania since 2015, when they imported 10.000 euros worth. Since then, the National Institute of Statistics says that there is no more data on any income from bread imports from Poland to Romania.
Viorel Marin, the president of ANAMOB, denies the information about bread imports
Viorel Marin, the president of the National Association of the Milling and Bakery Industry (ANAMOB) doubts the data provided by the National Institute of Statistics related to the import of bread. And it also brings an explanation. "First of all, I don't think it's correct information. The National Institute of Statistics commits it once again. It's the second log I see. The first was related to grain exports, where it was said that we export more than we produce. A lot of frozen bakery products transit through Romania, which go to Europe, but do not stay here. So, in other words, the statement that we import bread from Poland, in such quantities, is not real information", Marin stated for alephnews.ro.
"Our bread imports from Poland increased last year by 10-12%", claims an importer
On the other hand, BBC, brings the statement of a bread importer from Poland. It states that Romania's imports of bread from Poland increased by 10-12% in 2020. "Our bread imports from Poland increased by 10-12% in 2020 compared to the previous year. In 2020, some of the biggest retailers in Romania signed direct contracts with our supplier (Inter Europol - ed.) from Poland, because they gave up their own bread and pastry production and outsourced this service", says Ştefan Radu, shareholder and administrator of the company European Pastry Prod. The company's name appears on the packaging of some types of bread sold in Bucharest, in the Mega Image network. And on the label it is stated that the bread is produced in Poland.
