Deloitte study: Millennials and Gen Z in Romania remain concerned about the cost of living

• Young people from Generations Millennials and Generation Z in Romania are still concerned about the cost of living, but they see Generative Artificial Intelligence as an opportunity for beneficial development.

A new study by Deloitte Global, Deloitte Global Gen Z and Millennial Survey 2024, carried out in 44 countries, including Romania, shows that the main reason for concern for young people in Romania is the cost of everyday life.

Thus, 43% of Millennials and 29% of Generation Z consider the cost of living to be the main issue, although these percentages have decreased slightly compared to last year.

Despite this concern, nearly half of Gen Zs (47%) and a third of Millennials (33%) anticipate an improvement in their personal financial situation. However, only 20% of both generations expect an improvement in the national economy.

Ecological Concerns and Sustainability

Almost 70% of young people are willing to invest in sustainable products or services.

A significant percentage consider avoiding the products fast fashion, reducing air travel and assessing the environmental impact of companies before procurement.

84% of Millennials and 81% of Generation Z believe that businesses need to offer sustainable options to consumers. Also, 82% of Millennials and 80% of Generation Z expect stronger action from governments to get companies to take action against climate change.

Over 75% of both generations are actively involved in reducing their personal impact on the environment.

Adoption of Advanced Technologies

More than 40% of young people believe that solutions based on Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) will improve working conditions.

Currently, 17% of Millennials and 13% of Generation Z frequently use GenAI solutions in the workplace. Millennials are more excited (31%) than unsure (19%) about these technologies.

The use of GenAI is seen as a way to save time, balance personal and professional life and focus on creative activities, leaving repetitive tedious actions to robots.

Mental State and Stress Factors

64% of Millennials and 55% of Gen Zers report good or very good mental health, with a significant reduction in stress among Gen Zers (from 52% to 38%). The proportion of those stressed remains constant in the case of Millennials (35%).

Major sources of stress include long-term financial concerns and family well-being.
