The most expensive cake in the world

• The most expensive cake in the world was created by Debbie Wingham, a fashion designer who also joined the confectioners' guild.

The most expensive cake in the world was created at the request of a customer in the United Arab Emirates to celebrate his daughter's birthday and engagement. Made in 2015, it still holds the title of the world's most expensive cake, with a price tag of $75 million.

desert shaped like a catwalk, flavored with Madagascar vanilla, mascarpone cream and strawberries and wrapped in Belgian chocolate, it was decorated with no less than 4000 precious stones.

The sumptuous cake took more than 1100 hours to make, and each decoration was personally shaped by British designer Debbie Wingham. 120 kg of fondant, 60 kg of chocolate – mainly used to sculpt the figurines – and 80 different shades of airbrush food coloring were used to create the dessert.

The cake weighs 450kg and the icing includes a 5,3 carat pink diamond, a 6,4 carat yellow diamond and 15 white diamonds of 5 carats each. These 17 gems alone add up to a fabulous £30 million.

What makes the cake worth so much?

The podium is decorated with 400 one-carat white diamonds, 35 3-carat white diamonds and 75 3-carat black diamonds. The diamonds were attached to the cake similar to how the fashion designer would add them to the dresses she made: set in platinum for added impact and value, this time replacing the thread with fondant. A few models decorating the dessert even wear edible versions of dresses previously created by Debbie Wingham.

In addition to the diamonds used in the cake, the designer also used amethyst and emerald stones, creating a true work of art. Debbie Wingham, also the creator of the "World's Most Expensive Dress", decorated with black diamonds, said that this unusual cake order inspired the idea of a new business: Couture to Cake.

She also told ABC News: "These diamonds were already owned by the family who ordered my cake. The precious stones were given in this way to the daughter and are part of a private collection." The British designer also humorously pointed out that although the value of the cake was 74 million dollars, that was not the amount collected for the creation of the dessert.
