• A grain silo in Texas gets a complete reinvention when Amy Kleinwachter decides to turn it into a one-of-a-kind guest house.
The owner of Old World Antieks antique shop, Amy Kleinwachter, fond of antiques and unusual old objects, when she heard that her best friend had a silo abandoned grain farm right next to his farm in Texas, he wanted to transform it.
Thus, she converts the silo into a chic guest house, perfectly adapted for her farm, which houses other elements also made from various reclaimed materials. With an area of 92,9 m², the guest house has a bedroom, a bathroom and even a nice veranda.
If at first it seemed difficult to find furniture that fits in a perfectly round surface, Amy Kleinwachter, together with a local entrepreneur, Judy Kurtz, manage to collect different pieces of furniture, which they adapt to the space. The silo house has leather armchairs, a footstool crate, and even a desk space made from an antique flower stand.

The fact that all the elements that make up the decor of the house are either old, reinvented or vintage adds to the charm of the construction. The wood used to decorate the bedroom was salvaged from a historic house in Texas near Amy's farm. To be able to use the wood safely and not expose guests to the lead in the antique paint, she seals it with a special polyurethane paint.
Special design
Amy Kleinwachter states, “It's definitely like a tin can, so by definition it's dark. Thus, I had to think of a way to light the construction through windows adapted to the limitations of the circular design. We opted for high-height and modest-width windows to maximize natural light and be perfectly functional in the given space."

“Old windows are among my favorites when it comes to looking for antiques, followed by metal awnings. I love how they bring depth to a design with rough elements.”
Amy Kleinwachter's approach is part of the international trend of reducing living space, currently called "Tiny House", which has gained momentum lately. And reinventing spaces unique and their transformation into spectacular homes is not an isolated phenomenon, but is increasingly used.
