In 2019, bread in Romania was 47% cheaper than the European average. On the opposite side was Denmark, where prices were 51% higher than the European average.
Data published by Eurostat for the year 2019 it also indicates the prices for other European Union states: Austria – 33% above the EU level, Luxembourg and Finland – 25% above the EU level, Bulgaria – 35% below the EU level, Poland – 30% below the EU level.

Bread prices in Romania they were also lower than those of other Balkan states, which are not members of the European Union: North Macedonia, Albania, Serbia and Bosnia Herzegovina. Practically, in 2019, Romania had the lowest bread prices of all the 37 states analyzed by Eurostat.
The very low price of bread can be an explanation for the fact that Romanians annually consume the largest amount of bread and bakery products in the EU.
