Eurostat study: coffee has become more expensive in the EU

• A Eurostat study shows that in the European Union coffee is becoming more and more expensive.

The data provided by Eurostat for the month of August 2022 show that the price of coffee in the European Union states was about 16,9% higher than in August 2021. The same data demonstrate that the level of coffee price growth between August 2021 and August 2020 was of only 0,5%.

Thursday, 6.10.2022 European Statistical Office (Eurostat) published worrying data on price increases not only for coffee, but also for milk and sugar, ingredients that complete the ritual of many coffee drinkers.

The annual inflation rate has been rising since October 2021 and the forecasts are not optimistic. In addition to the increased price of coffee at the EU level, there are also significant increases in the price of milk. Thus, the price of fresh whole milk, from August 2021 to August 2022, recorded an increase of approximately 24,3%, and fresh milk with low fat content, for the same period, of 22,2%.

Sugar, in August 2022, compared to 2021 recorded a price increase of 33,4%, between August 2020 and August 2021 the figures show a percentage of only 0,8%.

Expensive for other products as well

Agerpres announces that the prices of all these products (coffee, fresh whole milk, fresh milk with low fat content and sugar) have increased in all EU member states, except for Malta, where the price of fresh milk with low fat content has not underwent changes.

Eurostat study

The biggest price increases were reported by Lithuania and Estonia for three of the four products: for coffee and fresh low-fat milk both countries, for whole fresh milk the increase is 45,8% in Lithuania, and for sugar of 81,2% in Estonia.

The record for sugar price increases for August 2022 was held by Poland with an increase of 109,2%, followed by Estonia with 81,2%, Latvia with 58,3%, Bulgaria with 44,9% and Cyprus with 43,2 ,XNUMX%.

Coffee rose in price the most in Finland, where for August 2022 the figures showed an increase of 43,6%. Lithuania recorded a coffee price increase of 39,9%, Sweden 36,7%, Estonia 36,4% and Hungary 34,3%.

For fresh whole milk the figures for August 2022 show a price increase of 51,7% for Hungary, 46,8% for Lithuania, 43,5% for Croatia, 43,3% for the Czech Republic and 40,1 % for Latvia.

Fresh low-fat milk saw price increases as follows: in Lithuania by 50,2%, in Croatia by 41,2%, in Estonia by 38,9%, in Germany by 30,6%, and in Hungary with 30,1%.
