European grain market

• The market reopening at the beginning of the week was punctuated by a decline in prices on both Euronext and physical markets.

With news largely dominated by US announcements on ongoing negotiations regarding the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and the results of the German elections, the euro fell back below 1,05 against the dollar after a volatile session.

Western European exporters are still waiting for a revival of activity in the face of prices that have become more attractive. Prices for old crops have fallen again, with prices for the March 2025 maturity returning to their lowest levels since late January. The trend has also extended to new crops, marking a decline in the September 2025 contract.

However, operators are still paying close attention to the state of the crops due to weather conditions and rainfall in France. The latest report from MARS program of the European Commission shows that, currently, winter crops are in average to good condition, although some regions are already suffering from yield deficits.

Following wheat, corn prices also fell. Oilseed prices were also falling. Yesterday's downward correction in Canadian canola prices, after several sessions of firmness, quickly influenced rapeseed prices. The May 2025 maturity is thus approaching its first support areas. As for new crops, the November 2025 maturity is also falling below EUR 500/t on Euronext.
